WordCamp Seville 2018. This is how I have lived it.

As I always remember my friend Rafa Poveda (@bi0xid), a WordCamp doesn't end until you've written about it, here is my post about the event.

This is going to be a personal post, with my personal vision of the event and not a detail of each one of the presentations, etc. That's why you have the official site https://2018.sevilla.wordcamp.org/

The Seville WordCamp is a WordPress event that I am very fond of, since for me (and for my partner Mercedes) it all started there.

About the event

The event was very familiar, a reunion with colleagues and friends, receiving a lot of love and taking much more than what you give. How should these events be?

It was organized with little time and money, and even so, the organization managed to make us spend a couple of great days, with a great atmosphere and very good content.

As in everything that is organized with little time, it had its little things, which help the organizers to improve in future editions. Many of them (and they) are veterans of the organization and I am sure they will agree with me.

The main thing in a WordCamp is that there is a good atmosphere, that invites you to share with the other attendees, to make new friends and contacts and to enjoy good content (talks and presentations, work tables, etc.). And this goal was fully achieved.

The assistants

Undoubtedly the best of the event. The best of the best came together there. People eager to do and share, with many ideas and projects in mind.

I really enjoyed the number of people who approached me to tell me about their projects. There is a desire to do and I saw it clearly.

One thing that I also liked very much was the presence of many compañeras in Seville. They came from all over Spain (and from outside Spain) to the event. Brilliant. This is something that is already changing and the lack of partners in WordPress events should not worry us today. Not at all, there are many and they are making themselves known for what they are worth, not just for being women and a presence percentage to meet. They are there because they are very good professionals, who leave more than one of us with our mouths shut. Hey.

The presentations

The topic of the presentations was very special for me.

For three reasons.

one because Paul Miralles (@pablo-miralles), my son, gave his first talk at a WordCamp, just like Mercedes and I did in his day, in the same city, Seville, 6 years later. Exciting.

Pablo is the second generation of WordPresseros in the family and has a very high potential. If I had been organizing events, giving talks and managing HTML, CSS and JS like he does, I would be eating with Bill Gates right now 🙂

the second because my two godchildren, Victor Saenz (@VictorsaenzTM) y Paco Marchante (@pacomarchante), some people with whom to share the future and achievements, also gave their presentation at a WordCamp for the first time. And I'm sure it won't be the only one. I am very clear about how much they are worth and what they are capable of with a computer (and something to snack on) in front of them.

And finally, Mercedes and I were able to tell our story within the Spanish WordPress Community and how this has made us evolve and grow as better people and professionals. The networking

If there's something I like (and those who know me suffer well) it's talking.

Talk about everything and with everyone.

I love sharing what little I know and learning from others. It enriches me a lot to meet other people, listen to what they have to tell me and contribute my ideas.

It is something that I absolutely recommend. If you have the opportunity to attend an event where there are people with the same interests as you, do it. You will be surprised at how much you can earn, and I am not speaking purely economically, but rather how much you are going to carry in the backpack of life, which is the one that really has weight.

Just congratulate and thank the organization of the WordCamp Sevilla 2018 for all their selfless work. To the speakers for coming to share what they know with everyone else and enriching our lives. And to all the attendees for having made me spend a great weekend in a charming city. Seville.
