Why am I part of the Spanish WordPress Community?
It may be that you don't know that behind WordPress there is a Community of people who carry out voluntary work for the benefit of all WordPress users and also altruistically, without charging a single euro, investing part of their time and often contributing money from their pocket.
Incredible true?
For Here in Spain We have one of the most active WordPress Communities on the planet, cool right?
What the Community does for you
Surely you will believe that behind WordPress there is some company or company that is in charge of paying the programmers, designers, translators, etc., so that you can freely download this wonderful software, but nothing is further from reality.
although the friend Matt Mullenweg (who came up with this WordPress thing) created a company called Automattic and offers products and services based on WordPress, actually the software is constantly designed, programmed, translated and improved thanks to thousands of volunteers all over the world who offer their time selflessly to improve this software.
Volunteers collaborate regularly:
- Helping in the programming and improvement of WordPress, what we call «Core» https://make.wordpress.org/core/
- Helping in the translations of the themes and plugins into many languages, including Spanish https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=es_ES
- Collaborating in the creation of free local events (usually monthly) calls meetups https://es.wordpress.org/colabora/comunidad/meetups-en-activo/
- Y organizing annual events in your locality, what we call WordCamps https://central.wordcamp.org/schedule/ (the next one is next July in Seville https://2018.sevilla.wordcamp.org/)
- Recording, reviewing, editing and publishing videos of the talks, workshops, presentations, meetups, etc., so that everyone can have access to them https://wordpress.tv/event/wordcamp-irun-2018/ (for example you can see the latest videos uploaded from the WC Irun 2018)
And many other things that remain in the background, such as accessibility, design, tests and many more.
What you can do for the Community
You have already seen a lot of what the WordPress Community does for WordPress users in a voluntary and altruistic way, now, if you feel like collaborating in all this movement, you will be asking yourself the question: Ok, and what can I do, how can I to collaborate?
It is best that you contact one of the closest local Communities https://es.wordpress.org/colabora/comunidad/meetups-en-activo/ where they will update you on the best way in which you can collaborate, according to your tastes, concerns and abilities.
It does not matter if you are not a programmer or web designer, it doesn't matter if it's the first time you've come into contact with free software. Everyone has a place in the Community, regardless of their social or economic condition, their gender or sexual preferences, their religion, the color of their skin or their technical knowledge. It is an open and self-managed Community.
And now the answer to the question that I pose in this post.
What makes me belong to this Community?
what encourages me to use my time and money to help spread and collaborate on this free software?
Carla (https://twitter.com/LaPeceraDeFiu) is a companion of the Madrid WordPress Community who needs our help because of the bloody cancer, the help of his Community, his people and we have devoted ourselves to it.
Some colleagues have launched the web in the same way as everything that is done in this Community, without charging anything, without expecting anything in return, just to help Carla to be able to cope with these months in which she will have to undergo therapy.
We know that Carla has a lot to fight for and that she will soon be organizing events, helping and sharing with her colleagues.
From here we send you all the affection, all the strength and all the love that will help you quickly overcome this trance of life.
Proud of my Community, with its little things, like all communities, but that it is there when it is needed.
Thank you.

Joeeee Roberto!! I had not seen this post of yours!! Just to say a million thanks for your words, and once again thank the WordPress community for all the support I'm receiving during this shitty process.
A big hug and I hope to see you soon in the first WordCamp that we have in 2019 🙂
You will give me thanks as soon as you recover, which will be very soon 😉
And there is no need for millions, with a smile from you and the strength that you transmit to us I already take it for granted.
I'm counting on seeing you in that WordCamp and in many others, kisses!
